Talk about using all space... this is a shopping mall under nara-sin or new nara. I didnt get a pic of the family farms in the turnouts of freeways, but they did use all land they could find.

It's hard work... and i got to do it later in visit.
I bought half of my families gifts right in this shop... it was beatiful with arts, crafts and great service personel..
In front of the emperor's tomb with a man that spoke as  good or better english then i did at the time... he was from all places little rock AK. and was home visiting family for cultural heritage week.

Those doors which are about two stories tall each, are opened up during festivals and you can see the giant golden budha's face through them.
"Gaigin" certainly don't stand out in a crowd of highschool students do they?

Kids gather round to try to fit through the golden budhas nostril. The  hole in the post is the same size as the hole of the nostril for the golden budha, so to expirence the breath of budha, and to have fun they slink there way through the hole. I was the first outsider (gaigin) to make it through the hole that day.

Koi  the size of volkwagens were swimming around in this lake... it's about half as deep as it is wide.
Ah the leecherous deer, watch any apendage when they are around, they will eat anything like goats!

We are all watching a soap box preacher in front of a temple... fascinating.
Majestic walkways up the mountain... it is worth the 5000 foot hike up the hill.
Before and after. the monks used the caves that naturally occured here, built more, then built the woden temples all sceen here. the caves are 4000? years old, the buildings are 1000 years old reconditioned from the originals.

Statues and alters in rememberacne. For small children that die very young, theses alters are placed in rememberacne, and passerby's stack small stones on them to help the children build their "stairway to heaven".
